Rap Music: Does it make people violent Rap music is one of the elements of Hip-Hop music. It is the form of rhyming lyrics spoken rhythmically over musical instruments with a musical backdrop of sampling, scratching and mixing. Rap music became popular in early 80’s. In 1989 a group Niggaz Wit Attitudes came from Los Angeles and changed the rap music. This changed rap was the start of Gangsta Rap, in which they talked about violence, crime and killing. With the popularity of Gangsta rap, everyone started rapping in Gangsta style. Gangsta rap music uses vulgar language and portrays the life of gangsters and denigrates women. Due to this, Rap music has often been called as Anti-Christ and the root cause of violence in teen-age children But rap music was not actually responsible for making people violent or increasing the crime rate. Gangsta rap or any other rap is just the way of expressing one’s feeling like poetry; it does not cause people to become gang members or t o commit violent crimes. Actually at that time when rap music became popular, the crime rate was sky high and people were looking for easy answers. It was mostly due to those few who did not like rap music and started talking against it and tried to ban it. According to a study an average person by age 18 has watched 250,000 acts of violence and 40,000 attempted murders on television, but neither everyone become a murderer nor like the violent acts.
